POGGIODI SOTTO ROSSODI MONTALCINODOC Rosso di Montalcino Poggio di Sotto is actually a 3 year old Brunello (Brunellino) which shows to be ready to be bottled earlier than its bigger brother Brunello. The grapes for Rosso di Montalcino are managed in vineyards and cellar with the intention of becoming a Brunello, then after two years of aging, the casks are taste tested, and some are selected to be bottled as Rosso. The wine has the potential to age like a Brunello.

POGGIODI SOTTO BRUNELLODI MONTALCINODOCG This wine is produced from vineyards at 660-1,500 feet above sea level, all with varying exposure. The soil is mostly poor and rocky, composed by clay and limestone. The production area is in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, facing the Orcia Valley and the Orcia River. The pruning system is cordon spur, and grapes are harvested by hand in 15 – 20 kg cases from September 18th to the 28th. Vinification takes place in oak vats, using indigenous yeasts for spontaneous fermentation. The wine goes through long macerations and several pumping-over throughout the day. The wine ages for 42months in 30 hl Slavonian oak casks.
