Methods for in vivo dosimetry

In vivo dosimetry is the measure of the dose delivered to the patient during the treatment.

In vivo dosimetry can be done in two ways:

A suitable detector can be inserted into the patient to measure the dose directly but invasively A detector can be placed against or at some distance from the patient to measure the dose non-invasively In this case the dose inside the patient is calculated with a suitable mathematical model, using the dose measured at the position of the detector.

EPID dosimetry, as well as the use of dosimeters positioned on the skin of a patient, belongs to the second category of in vivo dosimetry.
