practical application of treatment and interventions, it makes them more capable to handle the complex men- tal health problems we encounter in corrections every day. Accordingly, they become better clinicians, better managers and better supervisors. Over the past six years, the psychology residents have pro- vided high-quality, in-depth patient assessments. From neuropsycho- logical screening and personality assessments to using psychometric instruments for assessments of intel- lectual disability, they provide an invaluable resource to the mission of the mental health delivery system. Amy Frizzell, warden at an institu- tion with the most psychological and behaviorally complex inmates from across the state, said, “The psychol- ogy residents have been a tremendous asset to our institution’s mental health mission. This process has ensured that our inpatient inmates receive the highest quality of care. We’re very fortunate to have this program.” The residency program Dr. Kathryn Cook, a graduate of the psychology residency’s first class and a current regional mental health director for Centurion LLC (the de- partment’s contracted health services provider), shared her thoughts on the program, stating, “As a regional mental health director overseeing mental health services at numer- ous facilities, this program not only influenced my clinical expertise, but

gave me the opportunity to utilize ad- ministrative and management skills. I want to thank Dr. Aufderheide for his leadership in starting the psychology internship and residency programs.” Former psychology resident and current psychologist, Dr. Daniele Profilo, stated, “These training years have helped me form a more accu- rate view of the prevalence of mental health concerns in corrections. I appreciate the fast-paced environ- ment of corrections and am looking forward to a career in correctional psychology.” →
