The sixth season of AHS returns to its roots with another haunted house tale. The difference here is that it's presented as a documentary – 'My Roanoke Nightmare' – that uses re-enactments (with actors playing the 'real' characters) and talking head interviews to reconstruct what really happened to an LA couple who moved into a mavelolent mansion in rural North Carolina. As always, there are particularly juicy roles for series regulars Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Evan Peters, while a mid-point twist seeks to shake things up even further. And if you're

Following a knockout debut season that proved there was still life in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead , Ash returns to his hometown of Elk Grove where he's greeted by a hostile reception from the townsfolk, and must face a force every bit as as strong and tenacious as the Deadites – his father! Casting Six Million Dollar Man Lee Majors as Ash's dad is a stroke of genius that adds to the fun, as does a narrative link to the second movie that diehard fans will love. Moreover, the second season actually manages to top the first in outrageous

gore gags – there's one particular scene in a morgue involving Ash and a corpse that you will never be able to un-see! On the strength of this season, the series is rapidly threatening to overtake the movie trilogy as the definite Evil Dead offering. More please. SH (see page 26)

October 14 marks the Departure, a rapturous event where two per cent of the world's population disappeared, with no explanation. In this third and final season, those left behind have invested the impending seventh anniversary with great significance, and at the centre of one such drama is Kevin (Justin Theroux), a man whose repeated resurrection from certain death has made him a reluctant messiah. Damon Lindelof, the showrunner for this unique HBO series, had plenty to do with J.J. Abrams' Lost . And having learned about the perils of a definitive ending, he demonstrates the fortitude to deliver something much more intriguing. AC

Any doubts that this homegrown prison series could still deliver the goods without Bea Smith are well and truly quashed in an unforgettable fifth season. Following the fallout of last year's cliffhanger, order must be restored to Wentworth, but it isn't going to be easy. Corrective Services turns up the heat on Governor Vera Bennett, while Joan Ferguson continues to manipulate events behind the scenes. And when Allie discovers what's happened to Bea, she swears vengeance on the Freak. The theme of season five is revenge, and in Wentworth Prison, it's a dish that's served both hot and cold. AC

Internet trolls, social media addiction, and the recent US Presidential Election are all given the Parker and Stone treatment for the show's landmark 20th year. The danger of nostalgia also rears its head in the form of the Memberberries – talking blue fruit that prompt people to remember the best bits about Star Wars ("Member the Death Star?") and have a pivotal role to play in President-elect Mr. Garrison's ascendancy to the White House. As with Season 19, the ten episodes are serialised, resulting in several cliffhangers. And when it comes to the best way to deal with trolls? Call in the Danish... AC

repercussions for an election just a fortnight away. Like its savvy protagonist Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) playing the voting public, season five serves up the series staples that viewers have come to love and expect. It's duplicity matched by tenacity, as these denizens of the halls of power engage in a pitched battle. Underwood is up against a charismatic Republican opponent, in a seemingly unwinnable campaign. And in twist, as Underwood plots to turn things around, the biggest threat comes from within his own party. AC
