Land Registry Fees on Transmissions on Death THE Council considered the position arising out of the decision in the case of James Sheridan as the result of which no Land Registry fees will in future be payable on applications for registration on transmissions on death except where the executor applies to be registered as owner for the purpose of adminstration. The Council considered corres pondence, from which it appeared that the Registrar

of Titles proposes to allow credit for all fees paid on transmissions on death subsequent to 3rd September, 1945, being the date of lodgment of notice of appeal to the Supreme Court against the decision of the High Court. It was indicated that no repayment of fees would be made in cash and that the allowing of credit therefor would be subject to the sanction of the appropriate Government Department. It was resolved that the Secretary- should approach the Registrar of Titles and suggest that the fees should be repaid in cash instead of being credited against the fees payable in future dealings as the latter method will cause real embarrass ment and inconvenience to solicitors and further more that the fees should be repaid as from ist June, 1945, instead of 3rd September, 1945. Solicitors' Bill IT was decided that the President and Secretary should seek an interview with the Secretary of the Department of Justice to urge upon him the necessity for the early introduction of the Bill which was submitted in draft to the Department in April, 1943. 81
