3. Looking Back Meeting cont.

Manager Preparation cont.

Career Aspiration:

The manager takes an important guidance role when discussing career aspirations with employees. It is the manager’s role to be honest, supportive and to offer advice and direction. At times it may be necessary to help the employee realise that they need to demonstrate consistent delivery and master the skill set in their current role prior to focussing on the next step. If this is the situation, they should carefully plan this conversation and consider how to present this honestly whilst still maintaining the employee’s motivation. Employee Preparation As it’s your career, taking the time to prepare for your Looking Back meeting is essential. A successful Looking Back meeting relies on you and your manager contributing to the discussion. Identifying examples of what you delivered and how you demonstrated the competencies/values is essential. Prepare how you will communicate using Greenline methodology using the key skills of Hear, Enquiry, Acknowledge and Straight Talk

Delivery against business objectives:

It’s good practice to keep a note of successes, acknowledgements and areas to develop throughout the year. This enables you to more easily recall examples when preparing for your Looking Back.

The following key questions may help:

• How well have you delivered each objective? • Have you met all of the measures of success or only some? • For the measures you have met, how have you done this? • Did you plan the delivery of each objective in a timely way? • Did you keep all key stakeholders informed throughout the project/task? • What in particular did you do in order to deliver a successful result? • What could you have done differently to improve the end result?
