November 3, 2020 Candidate Packet - Flipping Book Version

Per City Council Resolution No. 16-005, Candidates for elective office are required to pay half the cost for printing, handling, translating and mailing of the candidate statements as are determined by the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters Office at the time the candidate statement is filed with the City Clerk. Withdrawal of Nomination Paper: No candidate may withdraw as a candidate after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020. In the case of an extension, no candidate may withdraw after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Candidate’s Ballot Designation: (See of the Registrar of Voters Candidate Guide for more information and your Ballot Designation Form) The ballot designation is the word, or words, which will appear on the ballot under the candidate’s name. No more than three words may be used designating the current principal profession, vocation or occupation of the candidate; or the principal profession, vocation, or occupation of the candidate during the calendar year immediately preceding the filing of nomination documents. The City Clerk’s Office shall NOT accept a ballot designation which: 1. Misleads the voter. 2. Suggests an evaluation of a candidate, such as outstanding, leading, expert, virtuous, or eminent. 3. Abbreviates the word “retired” or places it following any word or words, which it modifies. 4. Uses the word or prefix, such as “former” or “ex”, which means a prior status. The only exception is the use of the word “retired”. 5. Uses the name of any political party. 6. Uses a word(s) referring to a racial, religious, or ethnic group. 7. Refers to any activity prohibited by law. For additional information on acceptable designations, see the City Clerk’s office.
