Day Four: The Image of God

Then God said , “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:26-27 NIV O ne aspect of the first temptation was an appeal at our desire to be like God. The serpent said, "you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (Gen. 3:5) But we were already made to be like Him! It was a hidden plan of our enemy to pervert our innocence. The result of Adam and Eve’s failure was the introduction of sin and death. Our likeness to God was marred by the effect of sin. It’s as if we became disfigured from God’s original intent. But even a person who is far from God, living in rebellion and selfishness, is still created in God's image. No matter how far away we stray, there will always be a remnant of His nature in all of us. It is so interesting how the imprint of our parents is deeply ingrained in our psychic. I am the third of four brothers. We are each very unique in our personalities. Our career paths reveal diverse interests and abilities. But there is an undeniable resemblance, internally and externally, to our mother and father. My father was a man who loved projects. He was always working on something.
