Day Nineteen: Control

“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” ( Genesis 3:6 NIV) T he serpent had bated Eve. He questioned the goodness of God and offered her a different option. He encouraged her to take matters into your own hands and eat the forbidden fruit, so she would be more like God. There are so many subtle messages here. "God is holding you back from your full potential. He just wants to control you. If He really loved you He would not withhold this from you." Eve was faced with two messages, the truth and a lie. Her rational mind took over as she began to measure the two. There were apparent confirming facts to the lie. "Food is something I need to keep my body healthy. It has a nice, pleasing color to it. Wisdom is a good thing that I need more of." She had been deceived through manipulation, so she ate the fruit. Why did he let her flap around in the winds of deception? He just watched the whole thing unfold without a word of input. He went completely passive as a spiritual leader. "And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived...” (1 Timothy 2:14a NIV)" Too many have used this passage to put the major fault on Eve. We don't knowwhat was in Adam's heart. Maybe he felt controlled by her decision. But, his passivity, and then willful disobedience carries at least
