In Oklahoma and Colorado, for example, 20% of allergy symptoms can be attributed to Cottonwood trees. 1 Common Cottonwood is prevalent from the northeast to the southeast United States extending into the Great Plains and north into Canada. Three related cottonwoods dominate the western United States. The dominating Cottonwoods in North America are Common P. deltoides , Black P. trichocarpa , and Arizona P. fremontii . Common Cottonwood is cross-reactive with aspen, poplars, and other cottonwoods.
