ASSESSMENT A LEVEL - comprised of three components:

The course demands practical, creative and communication skills in almost equal measure. Students will extend their ability to create drama and theatre, either in a performing or production role. They will also be required to write about drama and to develop their powers of analysis to become an informed critic. The course will involve taking part in drama productions, as well as studying plays, playwrights and theatre practitioners. Studentsneedtobecuriousaboutissuesandideasandhave a creative instinct for communicating their views through drama. Theymay be keen on acting, writingor on the visual and technical side of theatre and wish to develop their skills in some or all of these areas. Equally students will be interested in going to the theatre to see plays performed by different theatre companies. A popular pathway for a large proportion of A Level Drama and Theatre students is to pursue a related degree course at university.Vocationalcoursesarealsohighlysought-after, whether in acting, writing or technical theatre, with many being offered places at prestigious Drama and Musical Theatre Schools across the country. Career paths include acting, filmand television production, journalism, law and politics, the public services and teaching. The study of Drama has enabled our students to develop essential transferable skills, which have strengthened their appeal to prospective employers in an increasingly competitive workplace. Students are expected to demonstrate a practical understanding of a minimum of two complete and substantial performance texts and at least three key extracts from three different texts, placed in the context of the whole text. COMPONENT 1 - DEVISING Coursework 40% of A Level mark The written part will be based on practical devising which is original with stimulus froma key extract froma performance text and influenced by a chosen practitioner. 20% of A Level mark A group performance and monologue will be externally assessed by a visiting examiner. COMPONENT 3 - THEATRE MAKERS IN PRACTICE Non - Examined Assessment 40% of A Level mark The exam will have three sections; a live theatre evaluation; realising a performance text and interpreting a performance text. Students will also be assessed on a devised performance. COMPONENT 2 - TEXT IN PERFORMANCE Non - Examined Assessment
