We all know what originally made Max mad, but now he has even more reason to be crotchety. That War Boys mob, under the direction of Immortan Joe’s psycho son Scabrous Scrotus, has hijacked all of his stuff – including his prized Interceptor! Teaming up with maestro mechanic Chumbucket, he gets behind the wheel of the Magnum Opus and scours the wasteland in search of food, water, petrol, upgrades and, of course, a certain Ford. Obviously he’ll meet opposition in his travels, but with vehicular combat the main order of the day, he’s well-equipped. After all, they can take his blood, but not his bloody car!

Look out! There’s a Snake in the grass... and in several other devious places. Yes, the master of sneakiness himself, Punished ’Venom’ Snake, aka Big Boss, aka the daddy of Solid, Liquid and Solidus, is back. Well, more specifically he’s back in 1984. Following on from last year’s demo of things to come, Ground Zeroes , this one has a sizeable real time open world that takes a tour from Afghanistan to Africa, as our gruff protagonist seeks vengeance on those who destroyed his team – and almost him. As is tradition, players are encouraged to take the non-lethal route. But hey, if you’re feeling frisky you can of course lay down the lethality.

If you’re an Xbox acolyte and a petrolhead, there are two syllables that can induce drooling – ‘For’ and ‘za’. After the super-impressive fifth iteration, creators Turn 10 have somehow managed to go bigger, harder, faster, more, and rev way past the red line – without blowing the whole thing sky high. Some 450 cars (with added shininess) at launch, 26 tracks (Bathurst and 25 others – including 10 new ones) and real wet weather racing, where hitting a massive puddle at a great rate of knots can see you aquaplaning fence-wards, are just the beginning. The Stig’s digital cousin from Top Gear also returns, although Jeremy Clarkson is curiously absent...

Not content with bringing us Star Wars , Indy, Jurassic Park , both DC and Marvel’s comic book universes and more in brick form, LEGO now plan to exterminate any toy gaming competition as they fire a massive broadside at Skylanders and Disney Infinity. Imagine the familiar LEGO game format, but with oodles of worlds colliding. Through the base game and a plethora of additional packs – all of which you construct like normal LEGO sets – The Simpsons , Ghostbusters and Scooby-Doo , Back to the Future , Portal and Doctor Who (plus heaps more that we couldn’t make rhyme) offer a bricktastic tonne of super play time!
