Estate Planning Estate planning is the last step in the process. However, this step should be considered throughout the planning process.

With all the different components and complexity to the aforementioned options, it is easy to see why succession planning is pushed to the back burner for many construction companies. However, construction and succession planning can be very similar. Each of these starts with an end goal in mind and requires a carefully planned process to successful completion. Flexibility is important; the plan is constantly evolving and being revised, but if the process is followed, a succession plan can be built from the ground up.

∙ What do I want to leave to my family?

∙ Do I have the financial capacity to retire?

∙ What are the tax consequences of my succession plan and beyond?

As you can see with the transfer of ownership options mentioned, estate planning is an integral part of each different option. Owners need to consider all of the alternatives when reaching their estate planning goals.
