WCA March 2012

The topics under review here are not only essential to wire and cable production; they are under the same imperative as other processes to accommodate its changing require- ments. The growing demand for wire rope in large sizes presents a case in point. With traditional methods of coiling on a stand, top layers of larger-size wire rope were found to cut into and damage the under-layers. The remedy lay in stronger back- tensioning: a challenge at the outset but now a routine control measure in handling practice. Problems invite solutions. Problems in gathering and packaging the in- creasingly impressive products of the wire and cable industry invite responsive solutions of the kind offered by the companies profiled here.
