Dear AVS Community and Violists far and wide! It’s my great pleasure to write to you and invite you to mark your calendars for the 2024 American Viola Society Festival, which will be held June 19-22, 2024, at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. The Call for Proposals is

during the Festival—our Junior, Senior, and Collegiate Solo Competitions, Orchestral Audition Competition & Seminar, and the Viola Ensemble Invitational. One of these may be right for you or for your students, and prizes will be awarded in every division. We also look forward to offering a rich showcase of products, goods, services, and instruments in partnership with our exhibitors and vendors. Bring your viola to perform in the Massed Viola Ensemble, sign up to play in our community engagement performance, visit Primrose’s Hollywood Star, and enjoy four viola-and-friendship filled days in Los Angeles with us next June.

Colburn’s beautiful facilities, state-of-the-art concert halls, and the fascinating cityscape of Los Angeles provide a storied setting for us to celebrate and explore the viola. The festival “theme” is focusing on the post-pandemic concept of “New/Normal,” and invites proposals that redefine best practices and bring fresh perspectives. Come share your perspective, artistry, research, and experiences with us! The festival will take place in conjunction with the Primrose International Viola Competition, and without a doubt, promises a stellar line up of incredible performances. We will also hold our second Exhibition of Modern Violas and Bows, highlighting viola and bow making by living makers from around the US and the world. The AVS will be hosting five competitions
