ACI's new‘LINE-Dry’ system

As an independent wire and cable manufacturer, Concept Cables Ltd is committed to providing solutions for a whole spectrum of industries across the UK. In addition to its standard range of wires and multicores, the company offers the ability of manufacturing products designed tomeet customers’specific requirements. to continuous quality improvements in all areas. This includes ongoing investment in the latest manufacturing and test equipment to ensure the company can meet the high quality and service demanded by its customers. One of the main problems the company has recently overcome is the removal of the residual moisture film from water-cooled insulated cable products during production. The removal of this moisture film from extruded products proved inherently difficult to achieve and the previously employed compressed air nozzles were inefficient at drying the wire/cables and costly to run. However, ACI’s new LINE-Dry system appears to solve this problem whilst at the same time achieving significant savings in energy costs. Compared to the original compressed air systems, it is estimated that ACI’s blower-powered wire/cable drying system can give up to a 10-fold reduction in energy cost savings, which potentially equates to savings of thousands of pounds each year. Concept Cables is dedicated CEMSA has recently launched onto the market a new family of multi-head resistance welding machines named “GRG – MPS”. This new series is dedicated to the welding of stainless steel or carbon steel wire panels, both basic and special ones, like those used as shelves in supermarkets. The panels accepted by the machine can be composed by long and cross wires of different diameters as well as by cross wires wires on longitudinal bearing bars. The machine can operate by a shuttle tooling, either along the length-wise axis (parallel to the multi-heads) and/or along a 90° axis, perpendicular to the front, like in integrated systems.

With both versions, the blower and speed controller are mounted on legs and enclosed in an ABS plastic enclosure to prevent moisture ingress. Air is delivered at up to 2.8psi (80" SWG) at speeds of 8,800m/min (28,900ft/min) at 80 o C. This last arrangement is convenient for medium productions, where the mechanical cascade is within an acceptable time frame. 45-60 kVA is the rating of the transformers fitted to each head, whilst 250 kVA is the suggested rated power of the two transformers working in parallel. A more advanced alternative is the version with the medium frequency (1,000Hz) power package, which is recommended wherever energy consumption is an issue.

ACI’s blower powered LINE-Dry system can handle products up to 25mm in diameter at speeds of 500m/min. The blower is an ACI variable speed ‘Multi-Stage’ unit controlled via a speed controller, which gives flexibility to accommodate different products and line speeds. Two versions are available, one with the dryer heads enclosed to contain displaced moisture, and one which is an open unit.

A similar machine can be offered equipped with a pallets re-circulation shuttle, with automatic loading and unloading, as well as with automatic wires feeder (hopper). Heads can be 4, 6, 8, 10, or even 12 and 16, each fed by an AC transformer.
