Fastener & spring production

New type of furnace

Fastener production

The product is therefore steady and re- liable at the first stage, and moreover the springs can rotate freely undertaking the same position.

I.LE.S. Srl presents a new type of furnace for stabilisation in the continuous produc- tion of micro-springs, with wire diameters up to 0.6mm.

Vitari, now part of the Eurolls Group of companies, designs and manufactures innovative machinery for the wire industry. Advantages of the company’s fastener equipment include precision machining of the bron-al guides for greater precision of the finished part. Smooth transfer cam movement allows accurate positioning of the part, avoiding vibration and possible die mis-feeds. A finger clamping system allows for a wide range of head diameters. The company also states that it canprovide greater forging pressure compared to other competitive systems, and greater flexibility, allowing the machine to produce very demanding parts. Length under the head is determined by the trimming cam profile and is theoretically unlimited. Pneumatic trimming expulsion through the punch can be effected in the last two operations. A direct slow-motion motor allows for very accurate transfer settings.

With good insulation and ventilation inside, the furnace uses only 3.3kW, and is complete with a conveyor belt of 70mm width and a length of 550mm. Loading height is easily adjustable from 600 to 700mm through a simple device.

The conveyor belt is made in order to avoid tangling the springs. This furnace has been de- signed to be linked direct- ly to the winding, coiling and bending machines, therefore reducing the production time of the whole process.

The heat treatment takes place at the same temperature and stay time for all the springs, with the parts moving forward continuously without collisions and vibrations.

Everything under control Since 1983 Eldes has been producing and installing real time control systems applied to metal cold forming, cold headers and thread rolling machines. They are based on the supervision of the force developed in the production process, by means of piezoelectric sensors applied to the sensitive points of the structure. Today this type of control is well proven. The first control systems entirely based on Italian technology were developed by Eldes in 1982. Preserving continuity and always looking for innovation, Eldes followed and often anticipated, the progress in cold forming technology, developing the new generation of process monitoring to which Helios 2K and Titanus 2F belong. The company’s aim is to give the operator a means to understand and oversee the forming process, tailoring the controls and continuously improving the man-machine interface. The technological know-how the company developed in cold forming allowed it to create dedicated networks for production data collection and dimensional measures acquisition systems. The shop floor data collection network enables complete control of data production in the directional centre of any manufacturing company specialised in cold forming. Forging pressure data relating to production speed and the distance between punch and die enables fine tool optimisation. The machines are fitted with household name parts readily available on the market. The continuous high-pressure two zone lubrication system (60-80 bar) ensures precise movement of machine sequences. Part shearing is direct, using a shear and cam system with no intermediary parts. The Vitari ST 150 can cut a F12mm steel wire (60kg/mm 2 ) at 9 ppm.
