3146 Mailed on 27th November 1949 from Swatow (49.10.24) to Hong Kong; affixed with one - “Liberation, Temporarily Used For” airmail Unit stamp and one Domestic Unit stamp. The Silver Yuan 15 fen total value was the Hong Kong airmail postage. ( with a photocopy of Expert Certificate 2003) Since the liberation of Swatow on 24th October 1949, all the post offices in the area continued to sell Unit, Basic and Silver Yuan stamps and adopted Silver Yuan postage. On 1st Novermber the Military Control Commission terminated the sale of Unit Basic and Silver Yuan stamps and issued “Liberation, Temporarily Used For” stamps, Swatow post offices sold these stamps in Silver Yuan or other currencies at the exchange rates - Silver Yuan 1 = RMB / Southern Coupon 2000 = Hong Kong $5 = 100 Copper Coins. The sale of these stamps lasted till 24th November. Bear in mind up till 24th November Silver Yuan was the prevailing postage in Swatow area, we can conclude that the “Liberation, Temporary Used For “ stamps were issued for political propaganda to proclaim sovereignty and they were used to pay for Silver Yuan postage. HK$ 4,000 - 6,000
