TE15 Lithuanian Honey Cake

On the ground floor – a butcher’s shop. There was this French film that also had a butcher’s shop on the ground floor of a building, and the city was experiencing famine. The butcher would always have fresh meat. The building’s inhabitants would continually disappear. One day, a new renter moved into that building…
In our building there are no other renters – just me.
I moved here a month ago with everything I own: a television, a few books, and a dozen bottles of perfume. I like to smell nice. As for the butcher’s shop, it’s set to close up for good. That’s what the old building dwellers say. What will open instead? I ask. A police station, say the old building dwellers. What do we eat then? I moved in with my television and books. The television is Korean, the books – about China and Japan. Recently purchased. Just after I saw a Japanese film on TV about a samurai.
