The Shade Tree mechanic, Volume XXXVIII I Ain’t Sexist

ere have been some discussions about whether an article I’ve dictated ta my buddy would get in here. I came ta the shop tonight and I know he ain’t publishing this one. I ain’t sexist. Sure I refer ta my maintenance boys a lot. Guess what? ey are all male and they are all younger than me. I’m an old fart so ta me they are boys. But thinking I wouldn’t hire a female maintenance employee is completely wrong. e majority of my boys are white. at don’t mean I’m racist. What it means is that I’m in an area of the country where the vast majority of maintenance workers are white males. My buddy says he ain’t sexist, racist or any-ist. He’s a capitalist. Anybody that can make his company money has a job with him.

I will hire the best person regardless of who they are, where they are from, what color they are, or what their sex is. When all heck is breaking loose, all that matters ta me is “can they help me x this?” Another secret ta my success, I will hire good people when they are available, even if my HR people don’t believe I have an opening. Let’s talk about you. If anything enters inta your decision to hire someone, other than their skills, you are doing a disservice ta your company and your team. You best see the light and change your ways. Everybody is welcome at my shade tree (even those micro beer people).
