PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It is hard to believe that summer is over and our children and grands are back in school. I hope everyone had a great summer and took advantage of all that Greystone had to offer. I know we had great attendance at our camps and the pool consistently had big crowds. The Gator swim team and our league tennis teams had great seasons. Now we are on to fall which has some of our best golf weather and thankfully high school and college football. I was at the pool this past weekend with my family and it was good to see everyone enjoying themselves with their families. Andy and his staff have done a great job all season making the Greystone Pools the place to be for families. Our golf courses have been going through the regular maintenance schedule and Jason and his staff have done an outstanding job getting the courses back to playing condition quickly. Our courses are the best and we all should be proud to bring a guest to experience Greystone. Ryen and the tennis staff have been working hard to grow our youth and league programs. Wimbledon on the Green was a fun event and I hope everyone took advantage of supporting the Charity Steel event benefiting Camp Smile A Mile. Our Greystone team have been focused on developing activities and events for our families. Upcoming events include the Labor Day pool cookout, the Super Hero Breakfast on September 15th, and Father Goose Children’s Breakfast on October 6th. Greystone’s Halloween Spooktacular will be October 30th and is a safe place to celebrate with the kids. These are great family events so please plan to attend. Chef Alan and his team have continually improved our dining experience. We have Chef’s Dinners at Legacy planned for September 7th and 21st as well as October 5th and 19th. These dinners are well attended, so please make your reservations. My favorite is the Southern Dinners featuring Miss Wanda’s fried chicken. Look for these on September 13th and October 25th. A lecture series featuring speakers on various entertaining as well as educational topics will begin in September. Please review this schedule as I am sure you will find topics of interest. This is something new for our members as Dave and his team try different events for our members.

One of Greystone’s premier golf events, The Grey Cup, will be October 27th-28th. I will be leading Team Founders against Matt Scalici and Team Legacy as Founders defends the title that was hard earned last year. Fall is a great time to host a golf event at Greystone. Thanks to Alan Meisler and Don Capps, Greystone will host outings for Mitchell’s Place and the Sheffield Group. We can host events for as few as 20 players, so please keep this in mind for entertaining groups of clients or for raising funds for your favorite charity. This fall also brings something new to Greystone! We will be home to UAB Men’s Golf beginning this fall and I want to recognize Mark Blackburn and Dave Porter for their efforts in securing this for our club! As many of you know we have developed an excellent reputation for hosting amateur events with the SEC Women’s Tournament and previously the Greystone Invitational. The SEC has extended our contract and we now have the SEC office as corporate members of Greystone. Be on the lookout for our friends from the SEC and make them feel welcome. It is a great group of people. In closing, I want to thank you again for the privilege to serve our club. I also want to thank you for your support and prayers as Ginger went through her battle with breast cancer this year. I am happy to report that all is good as her surgery was done yesterday and there is no evidence of cancer. She still has radiation treatments to go, but God is good and she is on the way to recovery. She has set the bar for being thrown a surprise diagnosis and reacting like a champ!

We look forward to seeing you at the Stone!
