National Western Stock Show giving back The National Western Stock Show announced a new scholarship opportunity for Denver high school students – the National Western Stock Show, Denver Scholarship Program. Five scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to graduating seniors from public high schools, college preparatory schools or religious-affiliated schools in the city and county of Denver. Applicants should exhibit a passion and desire to pursue undergraduate degrees and careers that focus on making contributions to the fields of agriculture. This focus can be expressed in any number of ways and through any major or area of study, so long as the goal is to contribute to progress and leadership in agriculture. Applicants must: be a high school senior; have attended a Denver school; have a goal of pursuing a career supporting agriculture; have a minimum grade-point average of 2.0. Davis was a three-time PRCA World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider before turning his attention to the business of rodeo. That decision changed the fortunes for the sport and Las Vegas. Davis cast the deciding vote to move the National Finals Rodeo from Oklahoma City to Las Vegas. Since 1986, he has served as the general manager of the richest and most prestigious rodeo in the world. Cowboy Strong will further chronicle Davis’ youth, rodeo career and cutting-edge approach to producing the Wrangler NFR. It will also cover his second passion – horse racing and his rodeo family. Pickett to be inducted as honorary member at 60th Ponca City rodeo ProRodeo Hall of Fame steer wrestler Bill Pickett will be inducted posthumously as an honorary member of the

Ponca City (Okla.) 101 Wild West Rodeo Foundation during the 60th anniversary of the rodeo June 6-8. Pickett’s sister, Dannie Anderson, nephew, Gerald Anderson, and great-niece, Nekoye Anderson also will be presented with a belt buckle in honor of Pickett. The family will have an exhibit set up at the Osage Casino in Ponca City.

Pickett

Pickett, born in 1870, is credited with founding bulldogging or steer wrestling, as it is known today. He was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1989.
