COWBOY ARTISTS

J.R. VEZAIN Bareback Rider PRCA member since 2011 www.facebook.com/ LazySJLeather “I’ve done it since I was 8 or 9 years old through 4-H, and my uncle Duncan Vezain builds saddles. He’s a phenomenal leatherhand, so I’ve been trying to catch up with him. I’ve done all sorts of tack and everything. I like doing all of them, but my favorite is the money- makers. I like doing unique stuff when a customer calls with an idea or just turns a guy loose to get creative with it. I like doing all of it to break up the monotony. It’s a fun trade to be in for sure.”

CASEY TEW Team Roper PRCA member since 2015

BY MATT NABER W hether it is time spent ruminating on the rodeo road, taking in nature’s grandeur or simply a creative outlet, some PRCA cowboys’ talents extend beyond the arena and into the arts. Sketches, paintings, leatherwork and silverwork are some of the ways PRCA competitors express themselves or supplement their income with a craft that takes a combination of talent and skill. Several competitors shared their artwork with ProRodeo Sports News.
