DANNY CARL CARRICO

Danny Carl Carrico, a PRCA Gold Card member and former tie-down roper, of Edna, Kan., passed away April 23. He was 81. Carrico was born on Sept. 27, 1937, in Bartlesville, Okla., to Roscoe and Nina (Dallison) Carrico. Carrico attended McKennon School on Pumpkin Creek before moving with his parents to Edna, where he attended Edna schools. He was a member of the Leib 4-H. He graduated from Edna High School in 1955 and continued his education at Coffeyville Community College where he earned his Associates of Arts degree. After graduation, he joined the Kansas Army National Guard, proudly serving eight years before being honorably discharged. He was introduced to his wife, DeeAnn, through a mutual friend. They were married June 30, 1967. They were blessed with a son, David. Carrico began his career as a woodworker at a young age, building his sister a kitchen set. He was a master craftsman until his passing. He has built countless homes, cabinets, and family heirlooms in the Coffeyville, Edna, Dewey and Bartlesville. Carrico made his home on his grandparent’s farm where he farmed, raised cattle and horses, and raised his family. Carrico attended Don McLaughlin’s roping school in the early 1960s and went on to compete in tie-down roping in the PRCA. Carrico was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Nina, brother, Jack, nephew, Colby Seger, and great-niece, Ava Riley. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brian, Mackenzie Haley and husband, Chris, Jody Fankhauser and husband, John, Julie Reilly and husband, Steve, Janie Natividad, Joni Jones; great-nieces and great-nephews, and countless friends. The family suggests memorials be made to the following local organizations which Carrico supported: Edna Public Library, Edna Volunteer Fire Department or the Edna PTO Playground Fund, and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf- Bruns Chapel 2405Woodland Ave. Coffeyville, Kan., 67337. BRIEFS Saddle bronc rider Clay Elliott injured in Guymon Saddle bronc rider Clay Elliott, a three-time qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (2016-18) was severely injured during a ride May 3 at the Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo. Elliott was bucked off Frontier Rodeo’s Delta Force, and that’s when his trouble began. The Nanton, Alberta, cowboy landed on his head and fractured his neck. Elliott had surgery May 4 at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver. He was released from the hospital May 7 and is back at home in Nanton. “I broke the C6 and C7 vertebrae, and they fused the C5, C6 and C7 vertebrae,” Elliott said. “I’m wearing a neck brace for the next three months. I also have an appointment with a doctor on May 27 in Calgary, and he will probably tell me more (about recovery time).” Elliott will be out of action indefinitely. He placed a career-best 10th in the 2018 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $148,868. He placed in three rounds at the 2018 Wrangler NFR and earned $44,692 in Las Vegas. “I’m just going to have to take this day-by-day,” Elliott.
