Current assessment X Based on experimental data from Chinese and international labs, methods will generate comparable results, provided that methods are executed as described.

Considerations for future harmonization of methods X 13-cis retinol should be included in the calculation of total vitamin A in GB. GB only quantifies trans-retinol. IF may contain 13-cis retinol up to 25%, depending processing conditions. X GB to use reconstitution for powdered IF&FSMP. X AOAC/ISO method does not capture endogenous retinol. Measurable amounts of inherent retinol are present when whole milk is used. Formulation examples using whole milk are rare but do exist. If milkfat is present (~10% of endogenous vitamin A is as the alcohol, with the majority as esters.
