AOAC SPIFAN Stakeholder Program Meeting Book (September 10, 2020)

Conclusions & recommendations vitamin E

Current assessment X International experts expect methods will generate comparable results, provided that methods are executed as described and the congener quantified is Ş - tocopherol (and not include ş , Š and š congeners), which can lead to bias. X Chinese experts have observed significant lower results ( | 10%) for EN 12822 as compared to GB. X Chinese experts have determined significant difference in results between GB DQG $2$& ,62 +RZHYHU VDPSOHV FRQWDLQLQJ Ş -tocopherol acetate show comparable results. Considerations for future harmonization of methods X AOAC/ISO/GB to consider use of tocopheryl acid succinate (allowed source CAC- GL 10 -1979 for IF cat B and FSMP and GB 14880) which may lead to result difference. X AOAC/ISO/GB to consider methods differentiating between d and dl-tocopherol. (Vitamin E activity TE). Conclusions & recommendations vitamin C Current assessment X A method able to distinguish between L-ascorbic acid and erythorbic acid (isoascorbic acid) is needed. Both AOAC 2012.22/ISO 20635 and GB 5009.86 method 1 are able to do that. However, GB 5009.86 is not for IF. X AOAC/ISO can distinguish L-ascorbic acid and D-ascorbic acid, but D-ascorbic acid is not taken as the analysis target. D-ascorbic acid should be added as the determination target to eliminate the interference of D-ascorbic acid. ?? Iso-ascorbic acid meant here? X Comparison data by Chinese experts show that for most infant formula milk powder samples, the analysis results of GB 5413.18-2010 and AOAC 2012.22/ISO 20635 are consistent X Some of the higher results of GB 5413.18-2010 (FLUO) are due to the interference of D- ascorbic acid. X The results of AOAC/ISO are significantly lower than the expected level for protein hydrolytic formula and amino acid formula, while the determination results of GB 5413.18-2010 will be closer.
