Perchlorate ClO 4 - (MW = 99.45 g/mol) TDI = 0.3 μ g/kg b.w. (EFSA)

- (MW = 83.45 g/mol) TDI = 3 μ g/kg b.w. (EFSA)

• Small, polar and reactive anions of chlorine that are readily soluble in water • Inhibition of iodine uptake = critical effect for chronic exposure (concern mainly for infants and children) • Ubiquitous in the environment from both natural and anthropogenic sources • Probable sources in infant formula and baby foods: ingredient and processing water, raw ingredients, disinfectants, and potable water used for preparation at home

No official method in infant formula or other foods (only in fertilizers and water)
