system. Speed, power and temperature measurements can be stored, allowing control of the production process as well as the certification of the treatment parameters. The final destination of these pipes is for applications in the marine, petroleum, chemical, military and food sectors and other industrial applications. The system can also treat titanium pipes, starting from an outside diameter of 114mm and a thickness from 6 to 12mm, a speed from 1 to 2m/min and a treatment temperature of about 670- 700°C. characteristics of the systems include outside diameters from 114 to 1,016mm; 4-25mm thickness; 800-1,600kW power; and 400-600Hz frequency. The solution annealing ranges of temperature are 1,020 to 1,120°C for stainless steel, and 1,060 to 1,190°C for Duplex and Super Duplex steel. The pipe to be treated is transported on rollers, which, in addition to controlling the feeding speed, also places the pipe in roto-translation in order to ensure uniform heating. As the pipe exits the furnace, its temperature is measured by an optical pyrometer, capable of providing significant accuracy and measurement repeatability. The unit’s control and regulation system allows displaying, entering, recalling and storing of production data, and optional remote control of the

DURING the manufacturing process of welded stainless steel pipes, three undesirable effects occur, according to ATE, based in Italy: hardening by cold working of metal, the presence of ferrite in the welding seam, and sensitisation of the material in the thermally altered area with consequent susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. To eliminate these phenomena, it is necessary to perform an annealing heat treatment on the stainless steel called ‘solution annealing’, which involves heating the material to a temperature over 1,020°C followed by rapid cooling below the minimum sensitisation temperature by means of a spraying system. To perform this treatment, ATE has manufactured induction systems for solution annealing of pipes of stainless steel, Duplex and Super Duplex. The
