Rotary sizing mill for stainless tube and pipe manufacturers

tube and pipe for the last ten years. The first machine was used to size stainless tube from 55 to 108mm. The latest machine commissioned this year is sizing carbon steel pipe on an API line with an OD range from 114 to 355mm and wall thickness from 3.2 to 16mm. The largest RSM used to size stainless pipe is sizing 220 OD by 8.2mm pipe, while the smallest is sizing 25 OD by 0.5mm. Rotary sizing mills can be built in various configurations to meet the needs of the customer. Common variations are in-line, off-line, sub based and pipe laminating. improved surface finish, quick change tooling, reduced tooling costs, reduced machine cost, and low maintenance. The manufacturer states that when RSM technology is used on a mill producing stainless tube and pipe the advantages are most beneficial. The speed differential between the tooling and the product is very small, eliminating surface damage to the pipe. The surface finish of the pipe is improved by at least 30 per cent, reducing polishing costs. When using TIG, plasma or laser welding processes, RSM technology can accurately control the pulling force out of the welding station and also control the seam position. When inline annealing is used on a mill making stainless pipes, the RSM accurately controls the pipe tension through the annealing station. Rotary sizing mills have been sizing

KUSAKABE Electric & Machinery, a tube and pipe mill manufacturer, is continually developing, innovating and improving the design and manufacture of tube mills for the international tube and pipe industry. One innovation that is making a large impact on the sizing (calibration) section of the mills is rotary sizing. The rotary sizing mill (RSM) concept uses two cages of cylindrical rolls in a planetary configuration around the tube. The internal diameter of the cage of rollers is set smaller than the incoming tube. As the cage of rollers rotate around and along the tube, in a similar manner to a nut on a thread, the tube diameter is reduced. This process has advantages over the conventional method, including ease of adjustment, precision dia- meter adjustment, improved roundness,
