HLTAID005 - PROVIDE FIRST AID IN REMOTE SITUATIONS Rural/remote areas Before the trip, consider giving details of intended route to a responsible person staying behind and tell them when you expect to return. Take adequate clothing, spare water and food, waterproof matches, map and compass. Don’t travel faster than the slowest person in your group. In case of an emergency remember the Cycle of Care (DRSABCDS), seek shelter, stay warm and hydrated, don’t leave an injured person alone; if you’re lost – Stop! Stay where you are, if you are overdue, phone home ASAP and get help – make yourself visible. Tropical environment Before the trip, consider medical risk assessment, investigate destination risks, plan evacuation procedures, arrange immunisations and compile first aid kit. In case of an emergency remember the Cycle of Care (DRSABCDS), seek shelter, protect from sun, rehydrate and get help.
