Attain Ofqual regulated (officially recognised) qualifications

THE AESTHETICS INDUSTRY IS CHANGING The publication of the Health Education England (HEE) Report on January 8th, 2016, by the UK government’s Department of Healt h, marked a fundamental shift in recommendations for beauty therapists and medical aesthetic practitioners to gain qualifications at Levels 4, 5, 6 and 7 for advanced clinical skin rejuvenation treatments. Most recently, in February 2022, an amendment was made to the Health and Care Bill giving the Secretary of State power to introduce a licensing scheme for cosmetic procedures in England. The Bill was granted royal assent in April 2022, but, as of the time of writing this Prospectus (2024), to the best of our knowledge this is in development, but no legislation has been passed to licence said procedures.

We wholeheartedly embrace the dedication and tenacity of those, like us, that support the enhancement of the standards in our sector and have ourselves spent several years in the development and design of this suite of Ofqual regulated qualifications.

Our vision - to educate and support you as you commence your journey, and/or offer progression onto the highest levels of advanced corrective skin treatments, laser and light therapies and non-surgical skin procedures, via a dedicated Aesthetics Pathway from Level 2 to Level 7, that is aligned with relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS), with due regard to the standards and guidance of relevant regulatory and standard-setting bodies that currently represent the various disciplines within the Aesthetic Sector.

Please do note that Skin College makes no representation or warranty that the training provided will satisfy the obligations of any present or future licensing or regulatory requirements.

WHO SHOULD STUDY WITH US?

Our Aesthetics Pathway provides an ideal route for you if you currently work or aspire to work in the Aesthetic Sector, predominantly in a clinical working environment.

These qualifications are therefore ideal for:

All aesthetic practitioners and beauty professionals

● Medical and allied healthcare practitioners wishing to provide aesthetic treatments

● Those from a related but non-traditional therapy background wishing to provide aesthetic treatments

● Non-practitioner managers requiring a greater understanding of the skin

● Retail skincare consultants who require a better understanding of professional skin analysis and treatment

Those wishing to embark on a career in the aesthetic sector

To gain entry onto our higher level courses we do set a minimum entry criterion (pre-requisites) and can assist those without prior knowledge, expertise, and/or Ofqual regulated qualifications, to commence their journey with us, at a time and pace that fits into busy lifestyles.

OUR INTERACTIVE, AUDIO-VISUAL E-LEARNING PROGRAMMES ARE LIKE HAVING YOUR OWN PERSONAL TUTOR SITTING BESIDE YOU

OUR METHODS OF COURSE DELIVERY

E-LEARNING

The underpinning knowledge elements of the courses (theory) are delivered by audio-visual and interactive e-learning presentations, accompanied by high quality downloadable digital course notes. The modular format enables you to study at your own pace, scheduling your study time to suit your lifestyle and avoiding expensive time away from work, travel or hotel accommodation. If you choose a course that involves practical training, this element is classroom based. You will also have access to our devices/equipment which are not included, but may be purchased at an additional cost. We are also able to travel to your location to offer a very bespoke ‘1 -2- 1 (or group) hands on personal training experience’, please do contact us for further information if this is of interest to you.

The E-learning presentations are as close to personal delivery as possible - similar to having your own personal tutor sitting beside you. You will be able to login to your e-learning account to view the modules of your course in their interactive audio visual format, you can access 24/7 to enable you to undertake your own flexible learning schedule at times that suit you. Each slide is fully explained with the further enhancement of information in relation to clinical practices. As you progress through each module, you will be required to complete consolidation exercises, answer questions and complete multiple choice question exercises at the end of each module. These are marked automatically with results being delivered to you immediately. Upon completion of your theoretical studies, you will also be asked to complete an online workbook which will be submitted to GA for external assessment.

TUTOR SUPPORT AND ASSESSMENT

Whilst underpinning knowledge is delivered through flexible e-learning we put great emphasis in providing you with a very personal and ‘hands - on’ learning experience. We have a dedicated team of educators that will be responsible for supporting and mentoring you throughout all elements of your course to motivate and help you. They will arrange regular tutorials and verify your coursework as you complete it for the underpinning knowledge elements. They will also conduct the final assessments of your practical skills and case study completion and ensure that your digital portfolio is presented to the correct standard for Internal and External Quality Assurance.

PRACTICAL SKILLS TRAINING

The practical skills training is delivered by a trained and appointed Skin College Licensed Educator who will facilitate this element of your learning by teaching, guiding and assessing you during your practical training days. You will also be required to complete case studies and an end of course assessment to verify your practical skills and competency. Your coursework will then be submitted to a Skin College Internal Quality Assurer, and finally to GA for External Quality Assurance which is the final stage of your learning.

CERTIFICATION

GA will need to verify that you have successfully completed all elements of your course in order to receive your qualification.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

We welcome enquiries from existing practitioners who can evidence their previously acquired training, skills proficiency, knowledge/experience (e.g. certification acquired via workshops, supplier/manufacturer training, in-house training, continuing professional development (CPD) courses, etc.) as we recognise these as valuable sources of learning.

Once we have validated RPL evidence and/or identified any gaps in competence and learning, we would agree a plan for completing the qualification.

Please note that all qualifications require you to undertake a final theory assessment, and for practical courses a final observed assessment of skills is also required.

GA define RPL as:

“Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a method of assessing whether a learner’s previous experience and achievements meet t he standard requirements for the qualification you wish to study, prior to the learner taking the assessment for the qualification, or part of the qualification, they are registered for. Any prior learning must be relevant to the knowledge, skills and understanding which will be assessed as part of that qualification, and GA will subsequently amend the requirements which a learner must have satisfied before they are assessed as eligible to be awarded the qualification. Where there is evidence that the learner’s knowledge and skills are current, valid and sufficient, the use of RPL may be acceptable for r ecognising achievement of assessment criteria, learning outcome or unit(s), as applicable. The requirement for RPL in such instances must also include a consideration of the currency of the knowledge gained by the learner at the time they undertook the prior learning. RPL cannot be guaranteed in instances where industry practice or legislation has significantly changed in the time since the prior learning was undertaken / a previous award was issued.”

Please contact us for further information if you would like to be considered for RPL - we would be very happy to hear from you!

SKIN COLLEGE L2 – L7 AESTHETIC PATHWAY

STARTING THE PATHWAY: If you are commencing your journey into ‘Aesthetics’ and do not wish to undertake a traditional Beauty Therapy route we have an ‘Aesthetic Pathway’ starting at level 2, with the option to progress (in certain modalities) to level 7, which is structured to enable progression (with mandatory elements we call ‘pre - requisites’) at each level, with added ‘optional’ modalities along the way that we believe may enhance your knowledge and expertise.

IF YOU HAVE MANUFACTURER, SUPPLIER AND/OR CPD CERTIFICATES: If you have undertaken Manufacturer, Supplier and/or CPD training, have the required pre- requisites, and wish to ‘upgrade’ your skills to an Ofqual qualification, then our recognition of prior learning (RPL) route will ‘fill the gaps’ in any of your knowledge and/or practical sk ills to enable us to formally assess and verify your competency.

IF YOU HAVE ‘OFQUAL’ QUALIFICATIONS AND ARE READY TO PROGRESS TO A HIGHER LEVEL: If you are already on your journey and can evidence your Ofqual qualifications of prior learning you will be able to enter at the level most appropriate to your verified competency.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Our Pathway is designed for those who truly wish to gain superior amounts of knowledge and competency in Aesthetics – studying with us will take considerable time, we make no apologies for this; it will not be easy! If you are new to the industry and are looking to fast-track, we would not be the right fit for you, as our courses involve comprehensive study, assessment, and dedication of time and commitment.
