wire China 2018

To address the weaknesses of traditional neat oil technology used for the drawing of aluminium wires on high-speed slip machines, Alumol 615W is offered as a water-miscible alternative. Delivering improvements in machine cleanliness and operator acceptability, along with ease of filtration and cleanliness of the drawn wire, this technology is particularly suited to producers of automotive wires and enamelled wire. Albert Molloy, global product manager, said: “wire China provides a great platform for Metalube to showcase both the resources available in the region and the latest innovations in lubrication technology available. We look forward to welcoming visitors to our stand no WIF38.” Metalube exports 95 per cent of its production to more than 90 countries worldwide and has offices in Manchester, UK; Dubai, UAE; Mumbai, India; São Paulo, Brazil; and Shanghai, China. Metalube Ltd – UK Website : www.metalube.co.uk In the global marketplace, producers of cables, whether for communications, power or energy, face ever-emerging and often complex challenges to answer the various demands of the end application. By offering a wide variety of compound types – speciality PVC, LSHF (low-smoke, halogen-free), TPE and TPV – and by working closely with producers, Mexichem Specialty Compounds (MSC) is able to offer a variety of solutions to address these challenges. For example, fibre optic cable manufacturers are looking to expand their product offerings by pushing the low temperature limitations of traditional materials. They are seeking solutions that can be installed indoors and outdoors without compromising the integrity of the cable. On top of these challenges, they are looking for compounds that will answer both the US fire standards (NEC hierarchy from UL 1581 to NFPA 262 performance) and the newly adopted European Construction Products Regulation (CPR) for fire and toxicity performance. Often, they are seeking one material that will perform globally or they are looking for synergies to streamline their portfolio while focusing on next-generation performance. Global lubricants specialist Metalube Ltd will be providing information on the complete range of non-ferrous wire drawing lubricants. The company will showcase its latest innovations in lubrication technology, designed specifically to deliver optimum performance and cost benefits. As the wire and cable sector strives to increase efficiency and reduce costs with ever-evolving high-performance machines, lubricant selection is essential if machine efficiency and compliance with environmental regulations are to be both achieved and improved upon. Although traditional lubrication techniques in many instances continue to meet the challenges of the industry sector, Metalube has identified processes where innovation is required, and will be promoting two new products that further improve and complement the wire drawing process in two very demanding areas. These are: Lubricool 250B – a fully synthetic wire drawing lubricant for the drawing of copper and plated copper wires on high speed multi-wire drawing machines. The oil-free chemistry utilised to formulate Lubricool 250B delivers the maximum levels of cleanliness and lubrication required to meet the demands of multi-wire machines drawing down to 0.05mm. Drawing cones and dies remain free of debris to reduce wire break frequency. This helps to achieve optimum line speeds, ease of filtration and biostability, making Lubricool 250B a choice for this most critical of applications. Alumol 615W – a water-miscible aluminium wire drawing lubricant for rod, intermediate and multi-wire machines.

One of those developments is dealing with Industry 4.0 – new machines interacting with the network and able to offer unexpected possibilities. Additionally, they are equipped with intelligent camera supervision systems or the intelligent ringmark and colour loss detection. The camera systems monitor the production process of the final product precisely and ensure its quality. Data can be fully collected with the help of this system, which enables extensive and easy evaluation of the product log. These solutions provide additional support for customers as the operator can easily monitor the performance of the machines and is able to quantify the quality. Medek & Schörner combined several processes very smoothly – colouring/ring marking and proof testing of optical fibres. This all-in-one process of colouring, ring marking and proof testing is gaining interest as the integration gives the user a considerably faster workflow. The inline proof testing is designed for a speed up to 3,000m/min and equipped with extensive diagnostics systems. It even allows the catching of break positions to be able to analyse them for investigation under microscope. These new developments are only the tip of the iceberg. Medek & Schörner can rely on a wide and stable product range of cable marking machines and optical fibre solutions using cutting-edge technology. Here is a brief overview of the product portfolio: • Optical fibre colour coating systems including ring marking, tight buffering, proof testing • Fibre ribbon production lines with excellent ribbon planarity (including inline colouring) • Splittable ribbon • Production of compact fibre units (CFU) • High-quality gravure printers • Embossing metre markers and hot foil sequential metre or footage markers • High performance ring markers • Video systems for monitoring the printing quality of high-speed printing machines • Laser marking systems for cables ❍ A fibre ribbon production system from Medek & Schörner
