E scape from P ompeii Tranio watched clouds of smoke float above the theatre. Dion was there with him watching the chaos that was happening. Bricks were falling and trees were shaking. Something dangerous was going to happen. People ran back to their house to get their pillows and goods but most houses were already starting to crumble down. Right now, so many thoughts were going through Tranio’s head but then he wondered about Livia. He ran straight to the bakery. Pillars were falling and people were looking at Mt Vesuvius, their greatest protector. It was chaos, animals were running and people were screaming. There was a disaster waiting to happen in Pompeii. Tranio had arrived at the bakery, the ground was shaking and Tranio stood in panic looking for his friend. He found her sitting startled in a corner. Mt Vesuvius was grumbling and everyone was desperate to escape. Ash was flying and waves were crashing against the city walls. Smoke filled the air as everyone tried to escape. Livia and Tranio were running as fast as they could. It was hard to see through all the smoke though. The stuffy smell tickled their noses as they ran determined to escape. At that moment they realised they had lost Dion, they looked around while they ran and then they found him warning people to escape. Almost every eye Livia and Tranio looked at were staring at Mt Vesuvius, curious about what was going to happen next. Some people hid and others ran Livia, Tranio and Dion decided to run to the city gates because Dion knew the docks would be crowded. The run was at least 600 metres long. Then all of a sudden, Livia dropped to the ground. Tranio fell to feel if she was still alive. ”She’s alive, but very tired,” Tranio said as he wiped away a tear from his eye. Dion puffed as he carried Livia then he stopped in front of them and stood in front of a burning house, it was theirs! Tranio kneeled down to see his house in pieces on the ground. They had finally made it to the gates of Pompeii. Dion was an actor so he was important; because he was important, he got a horse to ride. Their horses name was Folio. Folio was a chestnut brown horse. His hooves were as black as soot and his eyes were blue like the sky, (but not the sky of Pompeii right now.) Folio was a racehorse, so he was fast. Tranio and Livia clambered onto him and Dion followed. The wind blew in their faces as they rode away from their beloved town. A feeling of sadness filled the three as they looked back at their town, which was now covered in layers of ash. A few days later Tranio and Livia returned to see what was left of it but there was nothing. Years later Pliny, who had lived on the bay of Naples, near Pompeii write about the eruption and when people read his book, they dug up Pompeii. Livia and Tranio visited their old town and saw their houses and even the bakery. Pompeii was not for living in anymore though, so they just visited their beloved town a lot.
