Your Sleds Are Ready To Go... But Is Your Trailer? By Al Swett

I t’s that time of year folks, getting ready for our season of snowmobiling. Hopefully your sleds have been all tuned up and ready to go, how about your trailer? Here’s a few things to look for and do to make your winter a little easier. Check your wheel’s, any cracks or are the lug nuts rusted on or missing?

If you have those EZ Lube bearing protectors squirt a few pumps of wheel bearing grease into them. Road grime and moisture can ruin them. If you do not have EZ Lube’s remove the wheels and repack the bearings. Check your tires for any cracks and bulges, check the air pres- sure. After a few years, they wear out, quickly! Don’t forget to check over your spare too.

This is a very important part of the inspection. The frame, with our bumpy roads and the miles we travel it’s very important to check for cracks and breaks. Inspect the tongue area and where the axle attaches to the frame these are critical areas that have to be inspected, these areas take a lot of pounding and should be looked on a regular basis.

How about your lights? Running lights top and bottom front and rear. Signal and brake lights working? Any wiring issues? How’s the connector and wire itself? Put a little electrical grease on the connector. Make sure the hitch on your truck or SUV is in good shape without cracks or breaks anywhere. Is the trailer ball in good condition? If you have an enclosed trailer, it’s a good idea to spray some grease or some sort of lubricant to the pivot points like the hinges on the man door, ramp and gas door’s.
