Fall 2006 issue of Horizons

The mission of Rockhurst University's Helzberg School of Management (HSOM) is to educate and develop leaders of competence and conscience based upon the Jesuit tradition of learning, leadership and service. At Rockhurst, business education occurs within a dynamic learning environment shaped by HSOM curricula. These curricula are subject to constant review and continuous improvement. HSOM suc- ceeds in its mission when undergraduate and graduate busi- ness curricula remain relevant, integrated and aligned with the university's mission and core Jesuit values. The primary learning goals of the Helzberg School of Management are: • Leadership - demonstrate the pursuit of personal excel- lence while helping others develop to their full potential; • Ethical Behavior and Corporate Social Responsibility - analyze ethical and corporate social responsibility issues in context and implement appropriate action(s); • Business Skills and Knowledge - explain, integrate and apply foundational business knowledge and skills to effec- tively lead and manage organizations; • International / Global - demonstrate the achievement of a global perspective that views business activity within a complex and changing world context; • Information Analysis and Application - identify, access, analyze and synthesize appropriate business information; • Communication - communicate effectively, and create an environment where effective communication can occur.

What are the attributes and skills you and your organization identify as necessary for success? If communication skills, analytical and critical thinking, technical knowledge, and teamwork are included, then look for an AACSB accredited business school. If you want to evaluate alternative business schools, then review their respective missions. If the alterna- tive schools considered are AACSB accredited, then you can be assured their missions are achieved and you will receive CATT value.
