Court of Examiners. A report from the Court of Examiners upon an application by a Law Clerk for leave to be bound under Section 16, was read. The application was refused. December 8th. Election of President and Vice-Presidents. The Council elected Mr. Charles St. George Orpen to the office of President of the Society, and Mr. John H. Walsh and Mr. Arthur H. S. Orpen to the office of Vice- Presidents of the Society for the year ending 26th November, 1916. Mr. Orpen, having taken the chair, expressed his thanks to the Council for his election, and a cordial vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing President and Vice- Presidents for the manner in which they had discharged the duties of their respective offices during the past year. Recruiting amongst Law Clerks. Captain Kelly attended to discuss with the Council, on behalf of His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant, Director of Recruiting, the question of promoting of recruiting amongst Law Clerks in Ireland. At the request of the Council, Mr. Commins, Secretary to the Law Clerks Society, was present. As a result of the discussion the Council undertook to issue a circular to the members of the profession throughout Ireland inviting information relative to the Law Clerks of military age at present in their employment.

Meetings of the Council.

December 1st. Extra-Ordinary Members.

A letter was read from the Northern Law Society submitting the names of the following members of that Society to be Extra-ordinary Members of the Council:—Mr. G. H. Quarry, Mr. Joseph Alien, Mr. C. W. Black, Mr. J. D. Coates, and Mr. J. L. McDonnell. A letter was read from the Southern Law Association submitting the names of the following members of that Association to be Extra-ordinary Members of the Council:— Mr. W. Guest Lane, Mr. B. C. Galvin, Mr. W. H. Corker, Mr. W. B. Ronan, and Mr. H. A. Wynne. The ten members nominated were declared duly elected as the ten Extra-ordinary Members of the Council for the year ending 26th November, 1916. Mr. Byrne. A letter was read from Mr. Byrne, in reply, thanking the Council for their resolution expressing regret at his retirement from the Council. Recruiting amongst Law Clerks. A letter was read from Mr. Moran, Sub- Director of Recruiting of the Dublin area, asking the Council to receive Captain Kelly, on behalf of His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant, Director of Recruiting, in reference to recruiting amongst Irish Law Clerks. It was decided to accede to the request, and to receive Captain .Kelly at the next meeting of the Council.
