Obituary.

December, addressed to the Secretary of the Post Office at Dublin, respecting the admissibility at the Book Rate of postage of documents such as briefs to Counsel, and manuscript or typewritten copies of deeds, and other legal documents such as affidavits and orders of Court. In reply, I am to inform you that the transmission of such documents at the Book Rate of postage will be provisionally allowed, and that a description of them will, in. the next edition of the Post Office Guide, be included in the list of documents admissible at that rate. The Secretary, Incorporated Law Society of Ireland. to comply with Book Post regulations, every packet, so sent, must be sent either without a cover, or in a cover open at the ends or sides, and no packet may contain anything which is sealed or otherwise closed against inspection, nor any letter, unless the whole of such be printed. No such packet must exceed 24 inches in length, or 12 inches in width or depth. Results of Examinations. At the Preliminary Examination held upon 6th and 7th January, the following passed the examination, and their names are arranged in order of merit :— 1. Hutchinson E. Davidson. 2. Samuel A. French. Michael Dorgan and Edmond R. McDonneh have passed the modified Preliminary Exam ination, for which they had liberty to present themselves. The remaining candidates have been postponed. At the Final Examination held upon 3rd, 4th and 5th January, the following passed the examination, and their names are arranged in order of merit:— 1. Arthur P. Orr. In order

MR. JAMES ARCHER PORTER, Solicitor, died upon the 4th January, 1916, at Dublin. Mr. Porter served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. T. L'Estrange and the late Mr. H. Crawford, Belfast, was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1895, and practised at 27 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin, up to the year 1904, when he retired. MR. ALEXANDER Ross, Solicitor, died upon the 10th January, 1916, at Dublin. Mr. Ross served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. Peter J. O'Flaherty, Ennis- corthy, was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1895, and practised at 1 Upper Mount Street, Dublin, up to the year 1911, when he retired. MR. WILLIAM RUSSELL, Solicitor, died upon the Nth January, 1916, at his residence, Ardnagale, Downpatrick. Mr. Russell served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. James Murland, Downpatrick, was admitted in Trinity Term, 1871, and practised (recently in partnership with his son, Mr. Charles M. Russell, under the style of Messrs. William Russell and Son), at Downpatrick. Postal Services. Under the new regulations for the delivery of letters, the latest delivery in Dublin is that at 6.10 p.m. Letters for Dublin from the provinces, which reach Dublin by the evening mail trains, will not now be delivered until the following morning, but the delivery of a letter on the evening of its arrival in Dublin can be secured by sending it by Express Delivery. ———— In response to an inquiry whether legal documents, such as briefs, copies of deeds, affidavits or orders, may be now' sent by Inland Book Post, which is at the rate of one halfpenny postage not exceeding two ounces in weight, and one halfpenny for every additional two ounces or fraction of two ounces, the following letter has been received :— General Post Office, London, IZth January, 1916.
