BUSHkids 2016-17 Annual Report

Months of planning and collaboration culminated in the 11th annual BUSHkids Conference at the end of June, at UQ’s King’s College, St Lucia. This year’s theme focused on BUSHkids’ core values, with the official opening by the Hon. Jane Prentice, Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services, Federal Member for Ryan. Conference

Following opening addresses from Dr Neil Bartels and Carlton Meyn, 2017 saw our largest number of participants yet and we welcomed the attendance of the newest BUSHkids’ team – the Bundaberg NDIS Early Start Team. Over the course of the full week, current and future projects and organisational topics and achievements were presented and shared. Professional development for staff included Single Session Family Consultation training for the NDIS team, and a diverse range of multidisciplinary and discipline-specific topics for the Children’s Allied Health Services and Children and Parenting Support Services. In light of recent growth, a review of the current structure of the organisation and proposal for restructure was put to staff, and feedback and collaboration sought. Conference closed with the question – “are you aboard the BUSHkids bus?” It was encouraging to hear the heartfelt answers from staff committed to joining BUSHkids’ journey. The Conference Dinner was attended by a number of representatives and supporters from government, communities and media, and was a most enjoyable night. Thanks to all Council members and stakeholders who were available to attend during the Conference week and for ongoing support of this invaluable event. Congratulations to Mrs Annette Bartels on being the lucky winner of the donated Love Wraps knitted blanket!
