The North West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements andmining giant Lonmin have developed 544 houses for the local mining community in the North West Province. R700 m Marikana housing project

T he R700 million Marikana Ex- tension 2 residential project will yield an impressive 2 600 units on completion. This includes government fully subsidised units, Finance Linked In- dividual Subsidy Programme (FLISP) partially subsidised housing and fully bonded units. Contractors Malome Business Enterprise, Andisa Road and General Construction and Motheo Construction Group will roll out a range of housing typologies. Malome Business Enterprise built 292 units using 1,1 million Corobrik CoroJemclass bricks from its Rietvlei factory. Each 45 m² unit consists of two bedrooms, bathroom, lounge and kitchen.
