113 ARCHITECTURE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING “PARUS” AT KNODYNKA FIELD

Development of the Khodynka Field town-planning project began in 2000. The plan for the development of the 140 hectare area with the axes of two existing runways serving as the basic element for the composition included construction of exhibition pavilions, a space technology museum, residen- tial buildings and other types of property. plasticity. The building is divided into five residential sections with their own vestibules, stairwells and eleva- tors. The first and the second floors are used as the public and business area. The underground part features parking spaces. The façade shape resembles a drop or a sail blown up by the backing wind (the popular nick- name for the building is “the Ear”). This unusual shape was chosen on purpose: the author’s task was to make sure that the nearby school still gets enough sunlight after the new tower is built. In 2007, the “Parus” residen- tial building on Khodynka received the “Building of the Year” award.
