материалов мечтает реализовать дешевую продукцию по дорогой цене, а городским вла- стям не нужны лишние проблемы с какими-то сложными проектными решениями. Если ар- хитектор побеждает в этой борьбе, то у пер- воначальной идеи появляется шанс на каче- ственную реализацию, но если автор проекта не справляется с натиском оппонентов, то ито- говый результат может радикально отличаться от первоначального образа. Одним из удачных проектов, в котором в пол- ной мере отражены основные принципы моей работы, я считаю дом «Парус» на Ходынке. Во‑первых, этот проект от изначальной идеи до сдачи объекта претерпел очень мало из- менений. Во‑вторых, он реализован с опре- деленным видимым качеством. Это знаковая для меня работа. Есть у меня и неудачные проекты. Мы, конеч- но же, их не публикуем. Когда я еду по горо- ду и вижу такое здание, мне становится груст- но от того, что не удалось добиться каких-то важных решений, не получилось отстоять те или иные принципы, и проект в ходе реализа- ции оказался искажен. Архитектору нужно быть настойчивым. Кроме него нет ни одного заинтересованного чело- века, который хотел бы получить заявленный в эскизе результат. По своему опыту могу ска- зать, что в этой борьбе побеждает умнейший: тот, кто понимает, что путь от эскиза до сдачи готового объекта очень сложен. Для победы архитектору необходимо правильно расстав- лять акценты, педантично следить за все- ми нюансами, биться за каждую даже самую незначительную свою идею. В связи с этим вспоминается одна история из жизни архи- тектора Мельникова, который сделал эскиз своего знаменитого клуба, а потом, понимая, что для реализации этого проекта необходима серьезная государственная поддержка, лично пошел к крупному московскому начальнику, в буквальном смысле ворвался к нему в ка- бинет, выступил с пламенной речью и добил- ся согласования. Это наглядный пример того, что архитектор должен быть не только чело- веком искусства, но и борцом. Согласитесь, что в современной ситуации очень многое зависит от того, насколько удачно архитек- тор выстроил диалог с заказчиком. В связи с этим

I think that «The Sail» residential building on Khodynka Field is a successful project which fully reflects the basic principles of my work. First of all this project had changed very little between the original idea and the commission- ing. Secondly, it obviously meets high quality standards. This is a landmark project for me. There have been some failures, too. We cer- tainly do not make them public. When I drive through the city and see a building like that, it makes me sad that I haven't been able to find some important solutions, I have failed to up- hold certain principles and the project has been distorted in the process of implementation. An architect has to be persistent. He is the only one who really wants to achieve the intended outcome that is shown in the sketch. I can say from my own experience that it is the smart- est who wins the battle – the one who under- stands that the path from sketch to delivery of the completed project is not easy. In order to win, the architect must focus on the right things, pay meticulous attention to every small detail, and fight for each idea, no matter how small it may be. In this regard, I recall a sto- ry from the life of the architect Melnikov who made a sketch of his famous club and then, realizing that the implementation of that ambi- tious project would require significant support from the government, made a personal appoint- ment with a very important man in the Moscow municipality, literally burst into his office sense, delivered an emotional speech and finally got approval for his work. This clearly shows that the architect should be both an artist and a fighter. I think you would agree that in the current situa- tion a lot depends on how well the architect is able to communicate with the customer. The artistic tandem of Gaudí and Güell is often remembered as the perfect example of such an approach. What is the role of the customer in the design process? How should we communicate with them in the right way? It's always nice when the customer trusts the architect and is in agreement with his or her creative concept. True, it is hard to find
