trademark long shanks, which are DIN length, designed for extra reach. Tap sizes include a range for UNC or UNF threads, from #4-40 to 3 / 8 -24" sizes, to metric sizes from M4 x 0.7 to M10 x 1.5. Emuge is offering a performance guarantee: if the MultiTap-Form tool does not successfully outperform the user’s current form taps in most common materials, the tool purchase will be fully refunded. MultiTap-Form is available through Emuge distributors. Emuge Corp is a subsidiary of Emuge- Werk Richard Glimpel GmbH & Co KG. The company manufactures an extensive line of taps, thread mills, end mills, holders and attachments, with over 100,000 items sold through distributors worldwide. Emuge offers end-user technical support through a network of in-the-field engineers and in-house product specialists, all with extensive tooling and application experience. Over 10,000 types of cutting tools and accessories are stocked in the company’s North American headquarters located in West Boylston, Massachusetts. The 21,000ft 2 facility, custom-designed and built in 2005, also serves as a technology centre, equipped with a 5-axis CNC machine, and featuring a showroom and classroom.

The forming tap features an innovative geometric design, a proprietary grade of high speed steel (HSS-E) and is TiN coated for exceptionally long life and versatility. A short chamfer lead of 1.5 to 2 pitch is suitable for bottom tapping, and lubrication grooves allow coolant flow-to-form action for holes requiring long thread length. The forming of threads offers many advantages over conventional thread cutting. A formed thread is one where the material has been displaced instead of cut, which provides excellent thread surface quality and increased static and dynamic strength of the thread. Additional benefits include eliminating the risk of poor threads due to axial ‘mis-cutting’ and the ability to increase tapping speeds. “OurMultiTap line is the result of collective years of Emuge’s extensive tapping expertise, application research and a

Emuge Corp has introduced MultiTap TM - Form, a high performance forming tap designed to deliver performance increases in a wide range of materials including carbon steel, steel alloys, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and bronze. MultiTap-Form demonstrated four times the life compared to a leading brand form tap. MultiTap-Form is also designed to produce threads within both 2B and 3B classes of fit, eliminating the guesswork of calculating H-limits. “MultiTap-Formwillsignificantlyimprove thread quality and boost output while reducing production costs,” said Peter Matysiak, president of Emuge Corp. “One high performance MultiTap-Form will handle most common materials and applications. MultiTap-Form also eliminates the need to stock numerous types of taps that are suitable for forming applications.” In lab tests,

challenge the company issued to its engineers to design a multi-purpose tap,” commented Mr Matysiak. “Emuge design engineers responded by choosing a select base material, along with special geometry and surface treatment that would work in as many common materials and applications as possible.”

Taper stress joint development Chevron, Exxon, Shell, Statoil and Petrobras are working with Magma Global to develop and qualify a taper stress joint using Magma’s m-pipe ® technology. m-pipe’s high strength and flexibility together with its fatigue performance, corrosion resistance and temperature performance make it an attractive option for this demanding riser application. The project, which officially commenced in mid-February, will focus on a 15ksi 8" taper stress joint, and aims to have qualified design by conclusion of the programme. m-pipe is a high performance pipe for riser, jumper, spool and flowline applications. It was designed to meet the particular challenges of deep water and high pressure, high temperature and sour service operating environments. Magma has

developed a manufacturing process that produces high performance carbon/polymer pipes, that it claims offer improved reliability, increased performance, lighter weight and longer life than conventional un-bonded flexible pipe or steel solutions.
