Reducing weight of quick connectors with material-optimised ‘push and seal’

An integrated retainer allows for mounting and dismounting the quick connector easily. Assembly in fully automated processes is also possible. An incorporated O-ring keeps the connection tight, and the new plastic housing of the quick connector can be used with a VDA standard spigot. Norma Group manufactures a wide range of engineered joining technology solutions in the clamp, connect and fluid product categories, and offers around 35,000 products and solutions to approximately 10,000 customers in 90 countries.

which makes the connector suitable for narrow spaces. The quick connector’s performance is maintained at the same high level of the old design. Bernd Kleinhens, member of the Norma Group management board and responsible for business development, commented, “The optimised design of the push and seal quick connector helps to reduce the overall weight of cooling water systems and at the same time cuts down on fuel consumption. We are proud that this development can support our customers in improving their end products and in saving precious resources.” The Normaquick PS3 quick connector is made from recyclable materials and is characterised by rapid assembly without tools.

Engineered joining technology firm Norma Group AG has developed a material-optimised ‘push and seal’ quick connector for cooling water systems in passenger cars. The new design reduces the overall weight of the Normaquick PS3 quick connector by more than 40 per cent. The new design was created in response to automobile manufacturers’ increasing demands for lighter connectors that can be assembled rapidly. The wall thickness of the connector’s plastic housing has been reduced by up to 50 per cent compared with the original thickness. As a result, the overall weight of the element has been reduced by more than 40 per cent. The structural dimensions of the new design have become even more compact,
