SixFacts about Rome

1.

YOU CAN MAKE A LOT OF MONEY FROM THE TREVI FOUNTAIN.

Rome’s perfect climate and stunning scenery beckon many people into the plentiful city parks. People don’t have to travel far to experience park settings and exquisite monuments. The Trevi Fountain, begun by Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598–1680) in 1640, is a perfect example. The Roman Forum’s archaeological area is a public garden in itself that is open from morning until sunset.

2.

ROME CONTAINS THE WORLDS’ SMALLEST STATE.

Rome has the world’s smallest state located entirely within its city limits. It is the Vatican City, which is a sovereign state inside Rome. Inside the Vatican City, you can find 11 Vatican Museums with the restored Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and beautiful Vatican Gardens. The Vatican museum is the largest museum complex in the world as it consists of over 1000 museums.

3.

THE COLOSSEUM WAS NOT CALLED “THE COLOSSEUM”.

When it was finished in 80AD it would have been referred to as the “Amphitheatrium Flavium”, because it was constructed by the Flavian dynasty of emperors – notably Vespasian, who started it, and Titus, who finished it. “Colosseum” came into parlance circa 1000AD – but even then, did not directly mean the amphitheatre. It referred to an enormous statue – a colossus, even – of a former emperor (probably Nero) which stood outside, but has since vanished.
