Frontloading Lesson Plan

The purpose of the Frontloading Lesson Plan is for students to most successful by providing students predetermined guidance and reminders for applying necessary skills, strategies, and behaviors to be successful in the day’s learning. With the English Language Arts curriculum some of items that will build success with the students are frontloading: • Decodables • main selection • questions • vocabulary words • gist of the text

Frontloading these items prepares student to comprehend text and participate in structured classroom discussion during whole group instruction.

Frontloading a lesson is an effective way to improve student comprehension; freeing up cognitive space supports a student to allow for greater critical thinking and focus throughout the lesson. The following lesson plans are formatted to preview the content the day prior to whole group instruction. Teachers or Interventionists may teach the frontloaded lesson plans. Each plan is designed to teach with the Reading Street 2011 edition or the Reading Street 2013 edition. The Reading Street 2011 edition is also available in a PDF for schools located here .
