Letter Sound Recognition Routine

Sound / Spelling Routine

Purpose: To recognize various spellings for targeted sounds. (Use in conjunction with Reading Street sound/spelling cards.)

Purpose: To accurately and automatically identify all consonant and vowel sounds.

Say: You are going to practice saying the sounds for some letters. When I point to the left of a letter, figure out the sound in your head. (Note: 2 second wait time) When I touch under the letter say the sound as long as I continue to touch under the letter. Say: I will model for you how to say the sound of the first 2 letters when I touch under them. My turn. Say: Each time I touch under a letter, you say the sound it makes. Your turn . Correction Procedure: My turn. Sound? Your turn. Sound? BACK UP 2

Say: I will model for you how to say the sounds of the first two spellings when I tap under them. My turn. Say: Each time I tap under a spelling, you say the sound it makes. Your turn.
