#96 JOE MAIETTA Senior Captain/DL Joe Maietta returns for his senior season where he will lead the defense at nose guard ... at the conclusion of 2004 spring drills was tabbed one of two team captains (with Keith Zapalac) for the 2004 campaign ... last season earned 2nd Team All-Pioneer Football League honors playing with the defensive line unit at tackle ... played in all ten games and ranked 9th on the team in tackles with 33 (7 solo) ... chipped in with 1 quarterback sack, 4.5 tackles for loss and 2 pass breakups ... season-best 7 tackles against Southern Oregon ... totaled 5 stops in wins against Marist and Dayton ... transferred to USD from St. John's University ... from Levittown, New York, Joe attended Division Avenue High School. Major: Political Science. #70 MATT COLLINS Senior OL Matt Collins returns for his senior year ... once agai n is expected to play a starting role with offensive line unit at offensive tackle ... during his three years of competition he owns 26 career starts ... this past season he earned Second Team All-Pioneer Football League honors as well as being named to the PFL All-Academic Squad ... started all of the team's JO contests ... elected not to play during the 2002 campaign ... in 2001 he earned Second Team All-Pioneer Football League honors for his play at right tackle while starting every contest .. . also earned 2001 Second Team All-PFL Academic Team honors .. . started 7 games as a true freshman in 2000 ... came to USD from Brophy College Prep where he was an All-Region selection ... also recruited by Bucknell, Dartmouth, Georgetown and Cal ... chose USD for location and quality of academic and athletic programs ... is a four-time Dean's List member and 2001 Trustee Scholar ... his dad Edward played football at San Jose State. Major: Business Economics & Accounting. Senior LB Jeff Langdon returns for his senior year where he will again start at middle linebacker ... last season he earned 2nd Team All-PFL honors while leading the team in tackles with 72 (33 solo) ... chipped in with I quarterback sack, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 3 pass breakups and I interception (32 yard return vs. Southern Oregon) ... totaled a personal-best 13 tackles (8 solo) against Holy Cross ... added l O stops at Valparaiso and 9 tackles in win over Dayton ... in 2002 he placed 13th on the team with 24 tackles (12 solo) ... also added 3 tackles for loss and l interception (Valparaiso) ... he totaled a personal-best 5 tackles against Western Oregon ... also chipped in with 4 stops against Dayton and 3 tackles twice (La Verne & Southern Oregon) ... in 200 l totaled 4 tackles (2 solo) in four contests ... prepped at Aquinas HS where he earned All-CIF and CIF Defensive MVP honors his senior year with 110 tackles ... team went 12-1-1 and were crowned CIF Champions ... totaled 76 tackles junior year ... also lettered in baseball and basketball ... was a two-time All-CIF and All-League performer in baseball and added All-County and All-League honors in basketball ... also recruited by UTEP and UC Davis ... chose USD for location, weather and educational opportunities. Major: Business. #10 NICK GARTON Junior WR Nick Garton returns for his junior year where he will see again see considerable playing time at wide receiver ... this past season earned 2nd Team All-PFL honors while ranking 2nd on the team in catches (48), receiving yards (902) and receiving touchdowns ( 12) ... he led the team with his 18.8 yards per catch average ... in 2nd game ofseason at Davidson, set a new Torero single game mark for receiving yards with 234 ... in that contest he had 7 catches, 3 that went for scores of 80 yards, 9 yards, and a team-best 83 yards ... he tallied 7 games with 5 or more catches, twice reaching 7 receptions (Davidson, Holy Cross) ... during hi s frosh year in 2002 he hauled in 15 receptions (4th on team) for 161 yards (I 0.7 yard average per catch) .. . he had a long reception of 23 yards against Azusa Pacific in game where he had 3 catches for 42 yards ... 3 catches for 38 yards against Southern Oregon .. . named to the PFL All-Academic Honor Roll ... he prepped at Dana Hills High School where in hi s senior year he earned All-League, All-County and All-CIF recognition at receiver with 5 l receptions for 970 yards and 11 touchdowns ... junior year hauled in 30 catches for 321 yards and l score ... also lettered in soccer and track ... earned First Team All-South Coast League honors in soccer ... also recruited by Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Cornell and Penn ... chose USD for locations and strong academics.
