Pioneer Football League athletic directors and coaches established the PFL honor roll as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in football at member institutions during the fall semester and posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher while enrolled full-time in accordance with NCAA rules.

The USD football team placed 40 student-athletes on the 2007 Pioneer Football League Academic Honor Roll for the Fall 2007 semester. Repeat honorees are denoted with an asterik: (*). The USD football team had nine players named to the 2007 Pioneer Football League All-Academic Teams. Led by senior wide receiver Wes Doyle (Phoenix, AZ) and junior free safety Patrick O'Neill (Mission Viejo, CA), who were both named ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All– Americans, the Toreros placed six on the PFL First Team. The Torero duo were two of just twenty-seven players selected from both FBS (formerly I-A) and FCS (formerly I-AA) teams from across the United States. Doyle, who set a school record for receptions in a season with 73 (926 yards, 13 TDs), owned a 3.56 grade-point average as a Business Administration major. Annual FCS Athletic Directors Aca– demic All-Star Team and was a finalist

for a Post-Graduate scholarship. O'Neill, who ranked 4th on the team with 65 tackles (43 solo) and totaled 4 interceptions, carries a 3.79 grade-point average as a Business major. In 2006 both players garnered national honors as they were named to the 2nd Team.

Joining them on the PFL All-Academic First Team was junior wide receiver John Matthews (Littleton, CO), who tallied a 3.12 GPA in Business Administration; junior running back JT Rogan (Coronado, CA), a Business Administration major with a 3.02 GPA; junior DL Chris Gianelli (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), an Engineering major with a 3.75 GPA who also was named to the District VIII All-Academic team; and senior kicker Hutch Parker (Dana Point, CA) who carried a 3.0 GPA as an Economics major. USD had a trio of players that were named to the PFL All-Academic 2nd Team - senior center Jordan Paopao (Oceanside, CA), who earned a 3.07 GPA in Accountancy; junior DB Ben Hannula (Tacoma, WA) who carried a 3.48 GPA in Business; and senior return specialist Mark Cianciulli (Corona de! Mar, CA) who tallied a 3.5 GPA in Business Administration.
