Technip wins prestigious 2010 Global Pipeline Award

when designing thermowells for petrochemical applications. The risk of a thermowell failing due to under- engineering, or the extra costs incurred by the end user because of an over- engineered thermowell, can both be avoided if the buyer works with a reputable, experienced thermowell supplier such as OMC. Mr Chant concluded: “Okazaki has been providing technical support and design services to the oil, gas and petrochemicals industry for many years now, working to Japanese standards, which are often more stringent than the ASME equivalent. Therefore, for Okazaki, the new standard simply reinforces that what we’ve been providing our customers with for many years is the best approach.” Magnetic Analysis Corp (MAC) has recently supplied several Rotoflux ® flux leakage inspection systems to major producers of oil country tubular goods. Designedtomeetthelatestspecifications in the oil and gas industry, including API 5CT and 5L, ASTM, and ISO, these transverse and longitudinal flux leakage systems can handle material from 76.2 to 406mm (3" to 16") diameter. Flux leakage technology is particularly applicable for inspection of heavy wall material, and MAC’s multiplex test probe systems allow operation at high throughput speeds. Using very high magnetising capabilities and selective filter circuits, transverse and longitudinal defects on the OD/ID such as rolling skins, laps, cracks, laminations and cavities as well as internal defects can be accurately detected. Electronics mounted in the longitudinal rotary test head provide up to 24 separate channels from 24 test probes and allow each individual signal to be independently filtered, displayed and processed. For detecting transverse defects, multiples of 12 element probe arrays are individually mounted to rotate to provide 100% coverage, based on the tube size. Technip has been awarded the 2010 Global Pipeline Award in the field of Pipeline Transportation during the International Pipeline Conference in Calgary, Canada, for its Subsea Cryogenic Pipe-in-Pipe Pipeline Transfer System (C-PiP). The American Society of Mechanical Engineers International (ASME) Global Pipeline Award was presented to Technip by members of the Pipeline Systems Division, a division of the International Petroleum Technology Institute (IPTI). Technip began development of the C-PiP Pipeline Technology in 2004, earned proof-of-concept certification by ABS and BV in 2006, and fitness-for-service certification fromDNV in 2008. Technip is

currently designing or has assessed the potential for C-PiP Pipeline applications in several projects. The award application featured the design for the Hess LNG Weaver’s Cove Energy project in Fall River, Massachusetts. Technip’s C-PiP technology was selected for this liquefied natural gas import terminal project based on its superior safety and reliability features. The C-PiP LNG transfer system was engineered to address the specific challenges of this project’s location and is currently proposed for the 4.25-mile (6.8km) long offshore berth.

Production line testing of OCTG from MAC Especially important for many OCTG producers is the ability of the Rotoflux systems to handle tube with upset, irregular shaped ends, and tube with couplings. Specially designed test probe assemblies are automatically controlled to retract when the end of a tube with a coupling, upset or irregularly shaped end approaches the rotary test heads.

and MAC’s Echomac ® ultrasonic test systems. The Echomac systems include MAC’s FD-4 electronics with up to 32 independent test channels, suitable for user configured flaw detection or thickness gauging for each channel, and the Echomac UT rotary to maintain higher throughput speeds. Current UT rotary models can handle material ranging from 6.35 to 360mm (¼" to 14"). Magnetic Analysis Corporation – USA info@mac-ndt.com www.mac-ndt.com

To meet even more demanding specifications for OCTG, many producers are using a comprehensive inspection system that includes both the Rotoflux
