1. Select the cell into which you want to enter the formula. The selected cell becomes the Active Cell . 2. Select the Insert Function button in the Formulas Bar . The Insert Function dialog box opens. 3. Enter a description of what you want to do and press [Return] . A list of recommended functions appears. 4. Select the desired function in the Select a function list. A definition of the selected function appears below the Select a function list box. The Insert Function dialog box closes, the Function Arguments dialog box open, and the function appears in the cell and in the Formula Bar . 6. Click the Collapse Dialog button at the right of the Number 1 edit box. The Function Arguments dialog box collapses. 7. Select the range you want to use in the calculation. The range is outlined as you drag. 5. Select OK .
